I Am Taking Credit Where Little Is Due

So what if it is not my Oscar?
So what if it is not my Oscar?

Bet you didn’t know I was responsible for this summer’s biggest box office hit. Yup. Guardians Of The Galaxy: I am responsible for that.

And if you were in Zurich for their film festival, you might have gotten some excellent advice on how to make award winning films.  It may have seemed like Nicholas Chartier was giving the speech, but I am taking credit there too (but only because he gave me some).

I had nothing to do with either, but

More Nice Plugs For My Book

I hope film fans everywhere find my book and dig it.  It is so hard to get the word out that I am particularly grateful whenever anyone writes something good about the book.  Evidently it makes a huge difference when someone posts a five-star Amazon review.  Hopefully those of you who read this blog and recognize how much effort has gone into it over the years, might just want to return the favor and post such a review.  Or even better yet, start a blog and post the review there too.

This week brought me some pleasure when two friends who have blogs posted their review.

Free Reading To Enhance The Art And Business Of Your Film

We move things ahead by sharing what know and learn.  That has been the impetus behind this blog and many others.  The same can be said about case studies. Lately it has also become the impetus behind handbooks and the like.  Here’s a few you must download and read:

The MOST Useful HopeForFilm Post Ever

Is it? I am not sure how to measure this.  But not only do I find myself frequently going back to it, every time I see a movie I love or one that is lacking I go back to this post for contemplation.  I really should call it in the plural too because I did write an extension of it.

What transforms mediocre into good?

Learn How Your Actors Think

As a director or producer, you need to be able to understand how your actors think.  As a director, it doesn’t hurt to know how your producer thinks either, so you might want to read this blog.  Both directors and producers, need to know how their crew thinks.  And these days all should know how investors and distributors think, and those involved in the infrastructure elsewhere, like agents. Then there is the audience; let’s check that box too. Heck we need to know about critics too. And Festivals.  The list never ends!

So where do we begin?

Fortunately for us, ActorsAndCrew.com put together this nice list of their recommendations on the Top Ten Books on acting. Perhaps some one can put together the same on:

  • Producing
  • Crew: Casting Directors, Cinematographers, Editors, Production Assistants, Production Designers
  • Film Financing Now
  • Distribution
  • Agents, Managers, Publicists
  • Film Fans
  • Festivals
  • Critics

If we build these lists, I do think it will all get better, albeit not quite at the pace we may so desire.
