Crazy Animals #3: Talking Dog

Well, okay, this one is definitely not crazy.  The dog knows what he wants — and he got it.  Maybe this is the proof that the world would be a better place if we listened to the animals a wee bit more…

Free PEANUTS (If you act fast) !

Everyone knows that PEANUTS is one of the greatest comic strips ever, right?  But did you know that NEW animated episodes of it are available for free download at the iTunes store.  Better act now and get them onto your iPod, or your parents’ iPod that is.

We don’t know how to link directly to the iTunes store (please tell us if you know how) so you have to click on this link and then click on the link there that will direct you and then download.  But do it now because it is only for a few days!
And check out the free online Peanuts library at the comics.com website.

Best Wildlife Photos Of 2008

National Geographic has come out with the list of the best photos.  Check them all out, but we have put this one in The Bowl to have a look-see.  As you can see, the Animal World is pretty brutal.  You might want to have a parent with you to see the others…

Robo Roundup: Flying Jellyfish

We couldn’t contain this one.  We wanted to do a proper roundup (with at least three or more robos), but these were just too cool to stay in The Bowl.

H2Y had sniffed out that the spineless ones had become a new pet craze, and we must admit we found the phenomenon slightly phishy, but if we could get our paws on these, we’d want a brood.
Make sure you watch their evolution out of the water and into the air:

Zoom & Royksopp

One of our favorite picture books (100% no words) is Zoom by Istavan Banyai.  Or rather: one of our favorite picture book SERIES is the Zoom collection.  It’s also one of our favorite devices: you look at an image and then the artist either “zooms in” closer for a more specific detail, or the artist does a “dolly back” to show you the context of what you are looking at.  The books are Recommended Reading.

The Bowl recognizes though that this may be hard to see in your mind.  Luckily the band Royksopp has a video that captures this technique darn well, and suitably the song has no words either.

Our Favorite Pumpkin 2008

Jack O Laterns have hit some new highs this year.  We found many good websites specializing in carving.  Extreme Pumpkins is one of our faves.  Here in NYC we discovered that Abdington Square park last night became a gallery of pumpkin art, all lit up to attract the witches.

Yet The Bowl knows what The Bowl likes, and this year’s grand prize winner is Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories’ Dalek-o-latern.

It’s a robot no less. Click on the link above to build your own.
