Bowlers know we have a nose for Goldbergian complexity. THE WAY THINGS WORK will forever remain our our list of Required Viewing. We also endorse “home-made” and “swede-ing” amongst all nose-wearers. We gave a Golden Honker today to Ivan in Austin for his embrace of all this goodness on 11/9/08.

Sniffing out the stuff that kids really get best
Pixar’s UP
Where were we? How’d we miss that this was Pixar’s next? And no robot? No cute creature? A grumpy old man?! I guess it’s clear we didn’t go to ComicCon. Still it looks pretty neat.
Carl Fredricksen spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year-old Wilderness Explorer named Russell) gives him a new lease on life. UP takes audiences on a journey where the unlikely pair encounter wild terrain, unexpected villains and jungle creatures.
Cool Buildings #5: Cool Homes
Styles Of Animation #5: Cut Out 3D
Gnarls Barkley is known in our Bowl for his songs “Crazy” and his “Kung Fu Fighting” cover. He’s also always sure to have some one good to do his videos. We enjoyed sniffing out “Mystery Man” this morning, and not just for its caped crusader. The home made look is something we really dig. Dig and sniff for yourself here.
Crazy Animals #4: Baby Pygmy Hippo
I wish we could go to Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia today. We’d love to visit Monifa. Cute little funny looking thing it is!
Thanks BoingBoing!
Lightning Strikes
It may be powerful stuff, and a tad scary, but you have to admit it’s pretty cool. Still, we are pretty happy to only observe it on YouTube… There are lots of videos up, but very few that really do this aspect of nature justice.
What Our Country REALLY Looks Like
By now you might have seen those maps that are done to show how people voted. You know, the red and blue ones where blue represents Obama and the Democrats, and red represents McCain and the Republicans. Never mind that in most other countries red usually represents what is called the left and blue usually represents the right, but these maps are confusing for other reasons too.
If you want to learn more about these maps, you can click here.
