Skulls Are Cool, But…

…it seems people like money more. Have too many skulls, people might think you are nuts.  You ask me, the same should be true about money.  One of the most valuable things on earth is a good sense of humor though — and that’s something money can’t buy.  

Absurdity is the recognition and celebration that some things just don’t make sense, and it’s best when done with a sense of humor.  To cover a skull in $98,000,000 of diamonds (and ideas — they cost $28,000,000 without the idea…) is nothing short of absolute absurdity.  It’s kind of the wonderfully silly thing that no one should ever do, and we are so happy that some did.  There 8601 diamonds on it if you are counting.  Thank you Damien Hirst (and thank you Jim for reminding us of this shiny sparkling brainbox).

Damien is the same guy who did the shark at The Met, by the way.

Skulls Are Cool

I don’t know why but kids and grown-ups all find skulls cool.  Would Rock & Roll have been invented without skull images?  What about pirates?  Would we remember them if their flag had been lollipops or squirrels?  Who figured out that skulls were cool?  What makes them cool?  There are a lot of questions people can’t answer, that’s for sure.

Introduction

I have been blasting a handful of you about the things I encounter at the intersection of Intellectual Property Rights, Content Creation, The Law, Liberty, and General Net Surfing.  After getting a couple of requests to open up the circle, I migrating the blast to this blog.  I definitely could use some help stocking this blog, so let me know if you have some ideas.  

It is my sincere hope to be able to retire this blog within the year.  There are many sites covering similar ground AND doing it much better.  I will do my best to advise you of them as I come by them.  I see this as sort of a mutual education action: if we all become sufficiently knowledgeable about the issues in a reasonable time,  we will take action, results will occur, and we can all direct our attention elsewhere.  Until then, thanks for coming by.

Electing Not To

Okay, if November 2nd is Election Day, what’s today?  I like the idea that on August 2nd we get to ELECT NOT TO.  I would love a website that had ALL of the things we could elect not to participate in.  The benefits of doing nothing can never be over rated (say, have you seen The Tao Of Steve ever?).  Unfortunately, in today’s world, we have to act to get back to that state.  The assault has been on us for all too long.

Anyway, here’s a couple of options to OPT OUT.

Best Friends Of A Lion

My apologies for the cheezy song playing in the back ground of this video, but keeping with the recent animal theme, we had to put this in The Bowl.  And double apologies for the sappy sentiments at the end; it makes you wonder why people can’t trust the power of images and why they have to repeat what has already been said.  All that said, it’s nice to see such a friendship.  Maybe we should set all the pets free and see if they come back to us…
