Some Of My Favorite Things

Film noir, Nick Cave, absurd inventions, tales of others’ heartbreak, animation, clever company names, these are some of my favorite things. Okay I am not crazy about cats and smoky bars, or really happy endings when you get right down to it, but for this I am quite happy to make an exception.

With THE CAT PIANO, I just added “watching a lot more from The People’s Republic of Animation” to my ever expanding “To Do List”.

Recommended Viewing: More BLU – Combo w/ David Ellis

My favorite film of last year was BLU’s building piece. It may well be my favorite internet viewing of all time. My stomach’s been growling for something new from him to consume. What a delight to wake up and find this on my plate.

8-Bit Stop Motion Trip With Legos

Wow. Four things we like that taste great together. Don’t you just love putting stuff in a bowl and mixing different ingredients together and just experimenting what it might taste like? Well, this is not that, because they clearly knew what they were doing taking the 8 bit video game look, mixing in Legos and animation and backing it with some great computer generated music. Pure fun in our bowl.

Webcam Music Video

Again we have no idea what they are singing, but they sure made a fun video.  The people in it are all over the place and just using their webcams.  Beautiful!  Who says you need anything other than some smarts to make great stuff!

Thanks Noah!

Make Your Own Music Video… sort of

Here’s some nifty animation that you control by moving your cursor.  I am not sure what the song is about as the bowl only knows English.  But we do know that this is beautiful and fun! Check it out.

Styles Of Animation #6: Praxinscope

The zoetrope was replaced by the Praxinscope. You’ve seen a zoetrope in the museums.  You know you spin the wheel and look through the slots.

“The praxinoscope improved on the zoetrope by replacing its narrow viewing slits with an inner circle of mirrors, placed so that the reflections of the pictures appeared more or less stationary in position as the wheel turned. Someone looking in the mirrors would therefore see a rapid succession of images producing the illusion of motion, with a brighter and less distorted picture than the zoetrope offered.”

In the video below, the filmmakers took that method and applied it.  No camera tricks at all.

Pretty darn neato if you ask me.

Thanks Brainpickings!
