The Answers Are Revealed

IMG_6202The other day I did it a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything).  I managed to answer every question.  There were a lot of them.  You can find all the answers here. They run the spectrum from favorite color and what I like about being a CEO to how I got started, whacky experiences, and the future of the film business.  Please check it out.

If you need a quick fix, here’s how I got started:

[–]Birkenspock:
How did you get your start in the industry? How did you decide that you wanted to be a producer?
[–]TedHope:
I was a hack director in film school and recognized I could help those with vision to actually make a better film. When someone asked me if I could do something like drive a Winnebago or write a business plan for a film — things I had never done but I felt confident I could do — I said yes. I always looked for where I could make something better and contribute.

The key was also deciding to no longer ask for permission. I could not get hired as a PA on Sid & Nancy. So I showed up at the office one morning at 7A with two cups of coffee. When no one showed by 730, I got new coffee. After I got still new coffee at 8A the coordinator showed up. When she asked if I was there to work I said yes and immediately leapt in the door and worked my butt off. They hired me at the end of the day, slightly surprised to discover that no one had actually hired me before. Working on such a great project changed my life.
